Dulse Flakes
Dulse Flakes is making a name for itself due to its nutritional health benefits. Dulse has always been consumed where we grew up on the Aran Islands. It is now becoming a staple for some and others are still wondering about the salty taste that is associated with sea vegetables. Dulse Flakes is being used in many different ways today from eating it raw, sprinkling over a salad or adding it to a healthy heavy metal detox shake that is so popular now. Dulse Flakes has a leathery feel when you touch it and has a smoky flavour which makes it unique to other seaweeds as it is not as salty as other seaweeds like Irish Moss and Kelp’s. This is why is was commonly used on the Aran Islands for hundreds of years as the islanders used it as a snack food. Once you dry dulse it can last for several years provided it is stored in a cool, dry and dark place. We package all of our seaweeds in a food grade bag that has a zip lock seal to ensure that you will get the most from it.

What does Atlantic Dulse Taste Like?
Firstly, one of the most important questions people ask regarding Atlantic Dulse seaweed is what it tastes like. In simple terms, that depends largely on how you cook it. Like a large number of foods, Atlantic Dulse Seaweed’s final taste can differ depending on how it is used. Generally speaking, it is a mildly salty product which is more subtle in taste than other variations, including Irish Moss or Kelps. There are three main ways Dulse is usually consumed:
Firstly, flake: This way makes it perfect for a salad. It can also be used to enhance a fish curry or to make fresh bread. Why not step outside the box and add it to popcorn?
Next up is wholeleaf: this method lets you eat it either dried or placed in water. Using it in water will help bring it back to its natural form. Wholeleaf means Dulse can be used as a less salty option and offers up a chewy texture. According to some, eating it wholeleaf gives it a slight taste of bacon when cooked.
And lastly, powder (Coarse): If you live a busy lifestyle and want a quick fix, powder can be perfect to add to a detox smoothie. To do so, just add half a spoon of your Dulse power into your mix, shake well and go. Mixing it in this way can help remove some of the saltiness taste linked with Dulse in powder form.
